Flooring Quantity Calculator
Add an explicit waste allowance to a measured floor area.
Use this before comparing pack sizes, then follow the flooring manufacturer's allowance guidance.
What the result means
This is area including the chosen waste allowance. It is not a pack count and does not replace a layout check.
The formula
Room area * (1 + waste allowance / 100)
Results are displayed to at most two decimal places. Calculations use the unrounded inputs.
A worked example
Put the formula to work
- Room area (square metres)
- 24
- Waste allowance (%)
- 10
Flooring to allow for: 26.4
Twenty-four square metres with a ten percent allowance gives 26.4 square metres.
How to use this calculator
- Measure each floor section.
- Add the allowance appropriate to the layout.
- Convert the result to whole packs using coverage per pack.
- Keep spare boards in line with the product guidance.
Why this number matters
A visible allowance prevents an unspoken buffer from being mistaken for measured area.
Input definitions
- Room area (square metres)
- Measured floor area across the installation scope.
- Waste allowance (%)
- Explicit allowance for cuts and damage, entered as percentage points.
Assumptions and limitations
- Complex layouts, diagonal patterns, and product guidance may require a different allowance.
- Does not account for subfloor preparation or professional installation.
Methodology
The default result and worked example use the same calculation functions as the interactive tool. The formula cannot verify the quality or scope of your source data.
